I am extremely pleased to announce that Alfresco has been chosen a Technology Pioneer by the World Economic Forum. I will be going to Davos in January 2007 to participate in the annual gathering of the great and the good and what must be the single biggest concentration of influence on the planet. We follow other previous technology pioneers such as Google and Ray Ozzie at Groove. We are proud to represent the powerful economic force of the open source.
This year's topic is about the shift of power in the global economic structure. I met with Jonathan Schmidt, the organizer of the agenda last week, and I think the topic should prove to be extremely interesting. Being in software, we are on the cutting edge of this shift with more jobs, capital and power moving to places like India, China and Eastern Europe. This past week's Economist front page highlighted the dilemma for America as the financial services sector is losing out to London and Hong Kong on new deals and trading under the weight of its red tape. Of course, I might see a celeb or famous politician or two.
The World Economic Forum asked me to record a podcast describing what we hoped to get out of the forum and what influence we hope to have. You can find the podcast here.
John - Thanks for this list. It's a useful list and includes one or two points I would not have considered.
How true, but so difficult to get right: "less is more"
